Probably one of the most popular of the 8 bit machines, but at that time, a little outside my price range... But still fascinating none the less...
May your journey be free of incident.  Live long and prosper.

I had C64 and was pretty good at coding on it. I was 14 and could write demos in assembler using quite advanced techniques like removing borders, smooth scrolling or multiplying sprites. VICE is a great C64 emulator.

I got myself a C64-Mini, and I love the thing.

I had one, but I sold it not long after buying it. It's not the real thing. It's just an emulator and if I need to run an emulator I can run VICE on my computer.

If I'm going to have an emulator, I much prefer it be the C-64 Mini so that, when I'm not using it, it is still useful as a fun decoration and conversation piece.

I enjoy interesting trinkets on display.  I'd love to get my hands on "THE VIC20", but I don't have the space for that rig.

If it was the size of original C64 and had a working keyboard then I would keep it. Unfortunetely, it looked to much like a cheap plastic toy to me.

I don't see the cheap plastic, or the size of it, or lack of full-size keyboard.  I just experience the nostalgia of good times from the era.

Beauty is all in the eye of the beholder.

Floats my boat, and I share the joy of it.  Sinks yours, and you share your dislike of it.  I'm not the only one.  You're not the only one.

I still have the joystick version with 30 games build-in, but, I'm not really a gamer (never was). Coding was my thing. Of course, I spent some time on playing Boulder Dash, Stunt Car Racer, Cybernoid, Rick Dangerous, Impossible Mision, Draconus, International Karate, but I spent much more on coding.

Aurel, comma and full stop are two different things.

Charlie, which C64 games are your favourite?

Of all the games, I was completely hooked on Pegasis.

That said, I never had a C64.  My first computer was a VIC-20, and I upgraded to the C128.

So having both of those machines, my other favourite games was Omega Race.

VIC-20 and C128? Then you need to have a look at VICE. VICE is actually a collection of emulators. You'll find C128 and VIC-20 there. ;)

Yup, I have.

Although I can run any Linux-version of any app on my Chromebook A-1, I enjoy the zippiness of the machine when not running anything Linux.

Exception: TreeSheets (lordy, do I ever enjoy that one) and a few other favourite apps (Hex-a-Hop, VYM, gPlanarity)
